Ministry is not easy; especially when you have the crowd to contend with. Often times we want to strike a balance that sits well with the various levels of Christians that we have been called to serve. From those still feeding on the milk of the Word (1 Cor 3:2) to the Christians cracking bones, well eating solid food (Heb 5:14). We step religiously around what we have to say and how we share the good news with fear of offending people. But did you know that the word of God is actually offensive? Yep, it’s offensive to the flesh in a mighty way. It’s also offensive to the kingdom of darkness. The Bible makes it known that the true Word of God is a sweet fragrance to those saved and a stench type aroma to those perishing! (2 Cor 2:16). So if it offends, it offends those perishing and you must not cover it up.

As ministers of God, we are called to serve God, and we do that by serving the people. This means that God must be glorified in our service and we must not compromise in the delivery of the message God has given us. This is not to say that we are not mindful of the individual growth of those we have been sent to – but rather that we ensure that our delivery is undiluted, that it’s focused, impactful and complete.

We must also check in with those we have been called to serve and nurture their growth accordingly. It is not enough to serve and not follow up.

Jesus often ministered to the mixed multitude and even to the most unlikely and undeserving individuals. He was known for hanging out with sinners, but they were never left the same; their lives were changed because God was in the ministry. Jesus served the people with God (God’s mandate & agenda) in mind.

He found time to minister to the mixed multitude and made sure that the message was relevant without leaving them out. He then took the disciples aside and ministered to them on a deeper level. Still, He went deeper with His inner circle (Peter, John & James) thereby catering and ministering to the needs of all groups without compromise.

Let’s not twist the message to satisfy the twitching ears ([ Tim 4:3-4) or “update” the word/message to make it relevant to the times we are in. God doesn’t need help. His word is certain, it is the truth and it is evergreen; don’t dilute it.

The Holy Spirit brings about revelation and a deeper understanding; never rule Him out.

May the Lord help our ministry efforts in Jesus name. May it be pleasing to the Lord and not based on pleasing the people.

“But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.” 2 Timothy 4:5 NLT
